Gas bubble trauma

Doctoral research

Water can become supersaturated with air much like soda is supersaturated with carbon dioxide. In these conditions harmful bubbles can form in the tissues of fish, which is called gas bubble trauma. I studied the effects of depth and swimming activity on the progression of gas bubble trauma in fish. I also tested whether rainbow trout were able to detect and avoid air supersaturation.
